Skylight Installation Brings Light and Comfort to North Andover Cape

The Challenge

A young couple had recently moved into a classic Cape-style home in North Andover, Massachusetts. While they loved their new home, they found the upstairs bedrooms and office, which are located along the southern and southwestern sides, were too dim for their liking. The lack of natural light made these rooms feel closed off, especially the third room being used as a home office.

Looking for a trusted contractor with experience in skylight installation, they found Master Roofers through a search for VELUX 5-Star Certified Installers in the North Shore area. With glowing reviews and a reputation for quality, they reached out to us for help.

The Solution

Our skylight advisor met with the homeowners to walk through their lighting goals and explore the best options. As informed and proactive homeowners, they had already done some research and came prepared with thoughtful questions. Together, we designed a skylight solution tailored to their needs.

Bedrooms:

  • Two venting skylights were installed (one in each bedroom) to bring in more natural light.
  • Both skylights included 100% blackout shades, perfect for restful mornings and controlling early sunrise light in the summer.
  • The venting feature allows fresh air circulation, ideal for bedrooms.

Office:

  • A larger venting skylight was installed in the office space, the biggest available standard size from VELUX.
  • To manage solar heat gain, we installed a light-filtering shade that softens sunlight while still brightening the room. This was perfect for an office setting.

All skylights selected were solar-powered, featuring:

  • Built-in solar panels and batteries
  • Remote control operation
  • Automatic rain sensors that close the skylights in case of precipitation
  • No need for electrical wiring or an electrician, thus streamlining the installation

Additionally, we provided the homeowners with information about potential solar tax credits they may be eligible for and advised them to speak with their tax professional.

The Installation

Once skylight placement was confirmed using on-site visual layouts with tape, the installation team got to work. Thanks to the newer condition of the existing roof and our VELUX flashing kits, the entire project—including all carpentry—was completed in just one day.

There was no need for invasive construction or electrical work, and our crew primed the new woodwork, leaving the homeowners with just the final painting in their color of choice.

The Result

The homeowners were thrilled. The skylights transformed their upstairs living spaces by adding light, airflow, and modern convenience without the disruption they had feared.

What they expected to be a long, disruptive project turned into a smooth, same-day installation. They left us a glowing five-star review and expressed how delighted they were with the craftsmanship, efficiency, and results.
